International Chamber Music Summer Course. English Camerata Soloists. 8-14 July 2020
The English Camerata Soloists International Summer Chamber Music will take place at the Purcell School, in lovely Hertfordshire, UK, 8th - 14th July 2020.
This dedicated music school offers matchless facilities for our Chamber Music Course. There are 2 performance auditoria, each with a concert Steinway and concert Fazioli, and numerous other rooms, with Steinway grands, perfect for piano - based chamber music. Elsewhere are attractive rooms for string and wind rehearsal.
The wind component is a significant aspect of the Course, with repertoire featuring major masterpieces for example Mozart’s Grand Serenade for Winds as well as more intimate wind chamber music for quintets, sextets, and octets, for example.
With such a variety of instrumentalists present, players can enjoy music for winds and strings for example octets and nonets; and always popular is the piano/wind chamber music for example Mozart’s Quintet K 465, Poulenc Sextet, etc.
The string ensembles’ repertoire features core and less-well-known music, from Classical string quartets through nineteenth century masterpieces for strings alone and strings with piano, for example the great Quintets for Piano and String Quartet as well as the rich Piano Quartet and Piano trio repertoire.
The string coaches are violin stars Ofer Falk and Roger Coull, with their wealth of quartet experience; Karine Georgian and Pal Banda, cello, bring instrumental brilliance to the chamber repertoire. Each wind instrument has its own specialist.
Elizabeth Altman, who has done so much to bring the piano chamber music repertoire to centre stage, will be guiding pianists through some of the treasures therein.
For those keen to experience the music of Bach, Vivaldi and their contemporaries, there are specialist coaches, period players of international acclaim including Masumi Yamamoto, harpsichord and Edwina Smith, flute and Maria Becker, violin.
All the tutors approach the Course as an opportunity to give not only wise musical counsel but also encouragement, and not judgement.
The Purcell School’s site is extensive and on the edge of interesting and attractive countryside. The Course is set up to allow participants to concentrate on unlimited playing and enjoying convivial, like-minded company.
Individuals - ‘freelancers’ - and pre-formed groups are welcomed. Repertoire is decided in advance after lengthy discussion and liaison so that there can be the opportunity for some advance preparation.
