Specialist English 'Plus' Summer Schools

Bucksmore has been running high-quality summer schools for juniors since 1979. All courses are taught in a maximum class size of 11 students.

We offer several courses English + Specialism courses at King Edward's (ages 10-13) and Plumpton College (ages 13-16).

Each course includes 15 hours of English language tuition per week and 7.5 hours of the chosen specialism.

Coding (ages 10-13): A computer programming course where students have 15 hours of English tuition per week along with 7.5 hours of coding classes per week. Coding sessions focus on game design and functionality. Students use Scratch, Kodu and Sploder to build a variety of games and MicroBit mini computers to add a further dimension to the game design.

Arts Experience (ages 10-13) includes 15 hours of English per week with 7.5 hours of Arts workshops. In the workshops, students receive theatrical training from West End professionals in music, dance, and drama. Each week is based on a different musical or play.

STEM Experience (ages 10-13) combines 15 hours of English language classes with 7.5 hours per week of introductory "STEM" (science, technology, engineering and maths) workshops. Workshops include themes such as aircraft and boat design, rocketry, jet propulsion, and mechanical arms.

Animal Care (ages 13-16): Whether it's grooming a small animal, learning how to care for animals or understanding an animal's habitat, students will use Plumpton's animal care centre to combine 7.5 hours of Animal Care per week with 15 hours of English tuition per week.

Adventure (ages 13-16): 22.5 hours of English tuition per week combined with adventure activities including horse riding, mountain biking, mountain boarding, climbing, rafting, kayaking and sailing, as well as a 'survival night' camping on the South Downs towards the end.
