Breaking Barriers-Creative Writing
“Breaking Barriers” as an aim for this creative writing course can be interpreted in many ways. All of us have a story to tell, but we might not know how to break the surface in order to access our imagination within. Our writer’s block may be a medium-sized wooden fence or a dizzying stone fortress with walls that are several meters thick. In this online short course, we intend to break these barriers. This course is of interest to all adult students and learners.
This online short discovery course runs over six weeks on the following dates:

Immunity and Infectious Diseases
During this short course you will understand what the immune system is, what cells are responsible for responding first to an external pathogen attack and how do they keep memory of what attacked us so our body can recognize it next time. You will also have an overview of the most concerning infectious diseases (AIDS, cholera, tuberculosis, and malaria), the emerging pathogens from the last years (Ebola and SARS-CoV-2) and antibiotic resistance.

Pre-university: Introduction to Ethics
How do we justify our actions? How do we know whether we did the right thing? In this short course on ethics, we will critically examine the three major approaches to ethics that propose competing answers to such fundamental questions: John Stuart Mill’s Utilitarianism, Aristotle’s Virtue Ethics, and Immanuel Kant’s Duty Ethics.

Epistemology is the branch of philosophy that focuses on the fundamental questions concerning the nature, scope, sources, and justification of knowledge. Different epistemological approaches attempt to explain, in differing ways, what knowledge is, whether it is attainable, and if it is attainable, why and how we should pursue it. This introductory course focuses on the most influential rationalist and empiricist approaches and compares their strengths and weaknesses.
