British Youth Music Theatre - 2026 National Summer Camps
Enjoy a fun-filled, residential stay full of creative activity; the opportunity to make a new musical, build skills in singing, movement and acting, and find others who share a love of musical theatre.
Description:
BYMT Camps are six-day residential stays in the UK providing playful, creative training in music theatre for keen performers aged 11-17. They are designed for young people looking to explore their potential and develop confidence in acting, singing, movement, writing and instrumental playing. Inspiring theatre professionals suggest a brand-new show and participants then develop the story with their ideas and in just a week a new musical is made, culminating in a sharing of scenes and songs on the final day.

Participants receive a Grade 6 Certificate in Musical Theatre, accredited by MX, the prestigious Mountview Exams.

BYMT Camps are hosted in boarding schools and universities across the UK, with a Creative Team and Pastoral Team present at all times. A member of the BYMT office team is always on site at the beginning and end of a camp, with regular visits through the week.

The Creative Team consists of a Director, a Musical Director and a Choreographer. They are responsible for all things creative in the project. They are theatre professionals who are there to ensure that participants perform to the best of their ability and create a unique piece of work.

Our dedicated Pastoral Team – made up of one Pastoral Lead and three experienced team members – is available 24 hours a day during a camp to provide continuous practical and emotional support. These caring professionals are well-versed in working with young people and are there to ensure that every young person feels safe, supported, and cared for throughout their time with us.

In 2026, we are running five summer camps with a different new musical in development and creative team in each location

York Summer Camp - York, 26 July to 31 July

A lonely teenager is tempted into Everworld by the charms of Peter, where promised adventure becomes a dark, dangerous reality. Written by Kyla Stroud (Co-Writer, Co-Lyricist & Composer) and Natalie Stroud (Co-Writer and Co-Lyricist).

London Summer Camp - London, 3 August to 8 August

Musical in Development: Fates

A punchy, coming-of-age romp through the Greek myths where Clotho and her sisters, pop-tastic divas, weave the fates of the human race. Written by Lucy Ben-Yaacov (Composer & Lyricist) and Kitty Morgan (Writer).

Hertfordshire Summer Camp – Harpenden, 6 August to 11 August

Musical in Development: Professor Lowe’s Incredible Floating University

It’s 1926 and Professor Lowe has a madcap dream: to charter a cruise ship around the globe and give his students an eye-opening, life-changing education. Written by Tim Connor (Composer & Lyricist) and Susannah Pearse (Writer).

Belfast Summer Camp – Belfast, 14 August to 19 August

Musical in Development: Wayward

An anthology of wonderfully weird folk tales from Ireland and Britain exploring love, death, gender, nature, and darkly comic surprises. Written by Lowell Belfield (Writer) and Maz O’Connor (Composer & Lyricist)

Shropshire Summer Camp – Oswestry, 20 August to 25 August

Musical in Development: Itchybald Scratchet and the Buried Treasure

A magical opera-musical based on Sue Medcalfe’s beloved characters, highlighting increasing environmental conflict between ‘upples’ (humans) and animals. Written by Vanessa Oakes (Writer & Lyricist) and Ruth Chan (Composer).

BYMT Camps do not require an audition and are booked on a first come first served basis. We recommend early booking to secure your place.

Planning your first steps into the industry? We also run an Upskill Short Course to prepare young performers for drama school or conservatoire auditions, open to ages 16-21. For more information, visit our website.
